3 hurt, 1 seriously, in traffic accident on Route 80

On Behalf of | Jan 29, 2020 | Personal Injury |

When morning traffic is at its busiest, it’s no easy feat to get where you want to go. Backed up traffic can lead to any number of problems, from early-morning collisions to broken down vehicles that can’t get out of the way.

Unfortunately, crashes in busy traffic do happen. For example, there was a crash recently on Route 80 in Rockaway. The initial crash took place at 2:49 a.m., but three more vehicles crashed as a result of backed-up traffic just a few hours later at around 6:00 a.m.

The bad news about the first crash is that it involved two vehicles and multiple injuries. A driver had been traveling west when they suddenly hit a concrete divider. The vehicle was then struck from behind by a vehicle with two passengers.

In the crash, the driver of the first vehicle was reportedly in serious condition after being rushed to Morristown Medical Center. The driver and passenger in the second vehicle both required treatment at a hospital but were later released.

The lanes were backed up for hours following the crash, which later led to the second collision. The New Jersey Department of Transportation stated that the initial collision did lead to a complete shutdown of the westbound lanes (except for the emergency shoulder).

Crashes can happen anywhere and at any time, which is why it’s important to give the people around you space. If they go off the road or have to stop quickly, it’s important that you’re able to stop as well. That simple step could help prevent a second collision.
