Worker injured in ditch collapse in New Jersey

On Behalf of | Jan 2, 2020 | Workers' Compensation |

When you’re working in construction, it’s important that you take the time to be safe. Whether that means working in a buddy system or having safety gear in place, taking those steps will help prevent accidents.

Good preparation does make a difference, but that doesn’t mean that accidents won’t happen. Take, for example, this case out of New Jersey. On Dec. 31, the news reported that a worker fell into a ditch that morning, but he is expected to survive the fall.

The accident happened in Marlboro Township at around 9:54 a.m. The worker was at a work site on Buckley Road, which is near Blueberry Hill. There, they have an ongoing utility repair project taking place.

The 64-year-old worker was injured when a ditch partially collapsed, causing injuries to his lower body. The people he was working with, along with the police who came to the scene, helped get him out of the ditch. He was then rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The police reported that he had nonlife-threatening injuries.

It is important for anyone who is hurt to receive care as quickly as possible, so they can have the best chances of survival and reducing the severity of their injuries. If you get hurt on the job, remember that you can pursue a workers’ compensation claim in most cases, which could help you recover the wages you lose as a result of your injury and provide you with other benefits, such as full medical coverage. Your employer should help you file a claim shortly after your accident.
